Legacy donations offer another giving opportunity

Meet donors Sharon and Dave Mudra

One way for you to support the L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity is considering including us in your legacy donations.
One couple who have chosen to do this is Sharon and Dave Mudra.
Dave and Sharon said they were inspired by the many stories about Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter and how they supported the organization and kept staying involved even late in life. Sharon has always been fascinated with the process of building a house because her dad and brother built houses and she loved the smell of new lumber.
Sharon said they started donating to the L-C Valley Habitat after seeing campaigns and supporting them. “Then we set up an automatic opportunity, but we make additional donations as well.”
Sharon said she strongly supports the vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live”
“Everyone should be able to have a house who is willing to work for one,” Sharon added.
She sees the legacy donor program as an opportunity for taking withdraws from their IRA. “It’s not that we didn’t want to pay tax, but we just would like to give more to support the Habitat (and other local nonprofit organizations).”
Through the Mudras’ tax shelters and annuity accounts, they plan to support the L-C Valley Habitat organization, and other organizations with legacy donations after they have passed away.
“It’s not something that’s going to happen for a while,” Dave said with a smile.
The Habitat mission is important to the L-C Valley and both Mudras agree to support the organization.
“The individuals who put the time and effort into helping build a house with sweat equity towards the Habitat opportunity is applaudable,” Dave said.
“It’s so great for people to have homes who wouldn’t have them otherwise,” Sharon added.
Dave and Sharon have also donated furniture and household items to the ReStore to support the Habitat mission.
“We really support people donating to the Habitat because people have some really quality things when they choose to downsize their homes. And, you can help someone get a house with proceeds from your items. Plus, they will even come pick up your donations,” she concluded.
